The 2022 PDA Pharmaceutical Microbiology Conference is an in-person event that will be held on 10-12 October 2022 in Washington, DC.

Day two of the sold out 2022 PDA Rapid Microbiological Methods Workshop begins with a session on real-time bio-fluorescent detection of microorganisms. This section is focused on bio-fluorescent particle counting (BFPC) systems, an alternative rapid microbiological method capable of continuously monitoring microorganisms in air or water environments.

 

Allison Scott, Senior Principal Scientist at MicronView, and Caroline Dreyer, Senior Specialist at Novo Nordisk, will be presenting on an industry working group collaboration and the benefits and challenges associated with the implementation of a bio-fluorescent particle counter (BFPC). The first portion of the talk introduces the Modern Microbial Methods (M3) Collaboration and work that this group is undertaking to support modern microbial method use and implementation within industry. Background on BFPC systems for air and water monitoring will be provided, followed by the benefits and challenges encountered by Novo Nordisk when implementing a BFPC system in an isolator. This includes work to validate an air based BFPC system and regulatory perspective on the BFPC technology, as experienced by Novo Nordisk.
